The Chihuly exhibition of larger than life, breathtaking art glass sculptures at the Dallas Arboretum is in its final days. The exhibit, which has been overwhelmingly popular since its opening, was extended through Dec. 31 as a “holiday gift” to the city. It is spectacular, and a visit to the Arboretum on Monday, Dec. 17, was a treat for the senses and uplifting in many ways. North Texas weather couldn't have been more perfect, with bright sun and crisply, cool air, blue skies and only a light breeze off the lake. Because it’s not peak blooming season at the arboretum, visitors were few and walking the winding pathways was pleasant and easy.

On Saturday, November 10th from 8:00am to 1:00pm the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Foundation of Texas is asking friends of Reverchon Park to join them in the 2012 Out of the Darkness Walk North Texas.  Feel free to bring your friends, family and loved ones to walk to with us to raise awareness to celebrate the lives of the loved ones we have lost, to be proud for overcoming your own struggles and to realize you are not alone in your journey to prevent suicide.

According to the organizations website a person dies by suicide every 15 minutes, claiming more than 36,000 lives in the US each year and further estimates that an attempt is made every minute, with close to one million people attempting suicide annually.

Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. among adults 18-65, the second leading cause of death among teens and young adults, and individuals ages 65 and older account for 16 percent of all suicide deaths. This is a public health issue that does not discriminate by age, gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic status.
